COIMBATORE: Two guest workers were arrested on Saturday for killing a stray dog on the premises of a private college at Saravanampatti on Thudiyalur Road on Wednesday.
A police officer identified the accused as Pranjal Doley, 25, and Bhatia Patir, 30, both natives of Assam. They were contract housekeeping workers with the private college.
“They said the college authorities had asked them to chase the stray dog away from the campus, as the institution was preparing to host a function on Friday. But they ended up killing the dog, which was hiding near the parking lot on the campus,” the officer said.
One of the students recorded the cruel act using his mobile phone camera and shared the same with R Aishwarya, 25, legal advisor, Humane Animal Society, an NGO. She lodged a complaint with the Saravanampatti police, who registered a case under Section 429 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and nabbed them.
