Gujarat Youth Congress president Vishwanathsinh Vaghela on Sunday resigned from his post. The resignation comes a day before Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's visit to Gujarat.

Rahul Gandhi will address a rally of booth-level party workers for the upcoming Assembly elections in Gujarat on September 5 ahead of the party’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’.

He will address the ‘parivartan sankalp’ convention of booth level workers at Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad on September 5.

Reacting to Vishwanathsinh Vaghela's resignation, Gujarat BJP spokesperson Rutvij Patel said "Rahul Gandhi is coming to Gujarat for 'Join Congress Campaign' tomorrow, but in the state the 'Quit Congress campaign' is ongoing."

The 35-year-old Vishwanathsinh Vaghela was appointed as Gujarat Youth Congress president in January this year.

Earlier, Ghulam Nabi Azad quit from all party positions, including its primary membership.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who also quit the Congress a few years ago after being "ignored" by the leadership, earlier said Azad's resignation had many similarities with the one he had written when he quit the party in 2015.

The problem in Congress is that everybody knows Rahul Gandhi is "immature, whimsical and unpredictable" but his mother is still trying to promote him, Sarma said.

Meanwhile, former Congress spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill recently quit the party. Priyanka Chaturvedi also quit Congress and joined the Shiv Sena.
