‘Pulikali’ group from Tsr to perform in city tomorrow

Thiruvananthapuram: The ‘Pulikali’ (tiger hunt-themed street art form) group from Thrissur is coming to rock the streets of Ananthapuri on Monday.
The arrival of the tigers is part of the week-long Onam celebrations organized by the tourism department.
The group led by Satish Nedumpura, who is known for playing the role of tiger at Thrissur Swaraj Round on the fourth of Onam for many years, is arriving in the city for this year’s celebrations.
‘Pulikali’ will start at Kanakakunnu at 10am and will be played in the main centres of the city. A team comprising people’s representatives and cultural workers will also accompany the tigers with the Onam message.
Meanwhile, Aruvikkara, the main tourist centre of the district, is also getting ready as the city welcomes Onam. Aruvikkara panchayat and the District Tourism Promotion Council will jointly organize their Onam celebrations on Tuesday.
The Aruvikkara dam site and surrounding areas will be fully illuminated with electric lights, serving as the venue of the Onam fir.
Exhibition and sale of products of various government and semi-government institutions, commercial firms and nurseries will be set up in 55 stalls.
There will also be a food court run by various entrepreneurs, including Kudumbashree serving unique delicacies.
The fair will also feature an amusement park and music fountain for entertaining children. G Stephen MLA will inaugurate the fair.
Cultural programmes, including folk art forms by various artists, will be staged every evening. All the preparations and precautionary measures will be available considering the crowd and bad weather.
