COIMBATORE: The city corporation has speeded up the work to clean stormwater drains after the recent showers exposed the city’s unpreparedness to face monsoon.
A corporation official said while the work to clean some of the major drains was on, another drive would be taken up soon to clean the small drains. The civic body, he said, was hopeful of completing the work before the onset of northeast monsoon to prevent major waterlogging.
Deputy corporation commissioner Dr M Sharmila said they had recently cleaned a major storm water drain next to Fun Mall and another one next to Alvernia convent near Trichy Road. Similarly, bushes were cleared from Sanganoor Pallam at Kallimadai, she said. “The cleaning drive is progressing on Goodshed Road near the city railway station and at Ramanathapuram and Ramalingam Jothi Nagar. Soon, other stormwater drains will be taken up for cleaning.”
