MANGALURU: Christians led by Rashtriyavadi Christara Vedike (RCV), offered puja to the Ganesha idol installed at Sanghanikethan in Prathap Nagar in the city on Saturday.
Christians brought flowers and fruits as offerings to the idol, and participated in the puja at Sanghanikethan, where the Ganesha festival is celebrated every year, for the past 25 years.
Diocese of Mangalore PRO Roy Castelino said that the Ganesha festival is linked to the freedom struggle in India. “It was Independence activist Bal Gangadhar Tilak who taught us how to live harmoniously, by making Ganesh Chaturthi a mass festival in the society. Ganesha festival brings a festive atmosphere in Mangaluru,” he said.
Catholic Sabha president Stany Lobo, RCV founder Franklin Monteiro and others offered prayers. RSS Dakshina Madhya Kshetriya Sangha sanchalak V Nagaraj and vibhag pracharak Suresh were present on the occasion.
