On Sunday, the city will see the second round of major Ganpati immersions. After more than 60,000 idols were immersed on the second day of the celebrations, the civic body said that the fifth day is expected to see more idols with some sarvajanik mandals also having their immersions scheduled. This year the BMC had granted a nod to over 2,200 Ganpati mandals, which is significantly more compared to the last two years and also nearing pre-Covid levels.

On Thursday afternoon middle-aged Majid Khan stepped out of his laundry shop at the transit facility provided by Saifee Burhani Upliftment Trust (SBUT) at Bhendi Bazaar and squinted at the massive crane hanging motionless above the under-construction Al Ezz (Honour) tower at the Bhendi Bazaar redevelopment site. “I don’t know why the work has been stopped and when it’ll resume.
