PANAJI: It was a short, three-day trip for Allan D’Souza, who had flown down to Goa from Dubai on August 22 to complete some visa formalities. Twenty-eight-year-old Allan was eager to return to Dubai to his wife Rufina, who is pregnant with the couple’s first child.
Allan never made it back—he was found dead outside a restaurant in Baga on August 25.
On Friday, though police arrested a second suspect in the case, now registered as murder, Allan’s family is restless to get answers.
“Allan was so happy to be a father. Once the child is born, he was to fly his family to Dubai to see the newborn. We are shocked to hear of the two accused arrested from Arpora. They are completely unknown to us. We want to know the reason they did this to him and we want them punished,” said Allan’s brother Emmanuel.
The family seeks a faster probe as they suspect several others to be involved in the murder.
Allan’s father Antonio has already told the police that he suspects his son’s drink was spiked in the hours leading to his death.
“On August 25, Allan came to my wine shop at around 4.50pm and told me he was going out with some friends. But when I got home at around 9pm, I was informed that Allan was not yet home and his phone was unreachable,” said Antonio.
The family received a call around 10.30pm from the police informing them that Allan had an accident, but once they reached Candolim health centre, they were asked to identify a body.
“His face was blue-purple and it appears he was poisoned. His drink had been spiked. Police have CCTV footage from outside the restaurant in Baga which shows he had been dragged around by those who were accompanying him and it can be seen that the flesh was scraped off his leg. His bike was found some meters away intact with no signs of an accident,” said Emmanuel.
The family has demanded that all the persons last seen with Allan, including his friends, be arrested.
“Seeing the state of his body and vehicle, an accident is completely ruled out. CCTV footage showing Allan being moved in an unconscious state is evidence of conspiracy to murder him, destruction of evidence and concealing of a crime. An FIR should be registered. It was intentional intoxication and negligence in providing Allan medical help in time,” said Antonio.
