Man gets RI for abetting wife’s suicide

Coimbatore: The district mahila court on Friday awarded five years of rigorous imprisonment to a man for abetting the suicide of his wife in 2009.
K R Rajaram, 54, who was working with BSNL in the city, married Usharani, 28, in 2001. The couple was residing at the P&T Staff quarters at Saibaba Colony. Rajaram used to beat his wife while drunk. Unable to bear the physical and mental torture, Usharani ended her life on June 19, 2009.
The Saibaba Colony police registered a case against Rajaram under sections 498 A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) and 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code. District mahila court judge R Nandhinidevi pronounced the verdict. TNN
