Days after the latest NCRB report ranked
Rajasthan among states with highest crime rate against women, chief minister
Ashok Gehlot on Friday attributed the high number of cases to compulsory registration of FIRs in the state. At the same time, the chief minister asserted that about half the FIRs related to crimes against women had been found false on probe and directed the DGP to act against those who had lodged false rape cases.
According to the NCRB report for 2021, Rajasthan ranks second after UP in overall crimes against women and tops the list of states in rape cases.
Gehlot, however, said the report said the rise in crime and the increase in registration of cases by police were "two different things" and asked critics to base their contentions on the fact.
