Vadodara: Yet another incident of attack on a cattle party of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) took place in the Akota area of the city on Friday morning.
This is the third such incident within nine days in the city.
The attack took place near the R C Patel Estate, when a cattle party that was on rounds in the area spotted cattle on the road. The team approached the cattle that ran inside a compound there. While the team caught two cows, some of the cattle rearers rushed to the spot.
A man identified as Nariyo Bharwad reached the compound and objected to the cows being taken away by the cattle party. Two other persons joined Bharwad and raised objections to the cattle being impounded.
Supervisor of the cattle party, Venkateshwar Rao claimed that Bharwad not only beat him up but also pelted a stone at him. Rao was injured in the incident and registered an offence with the J P Road police station.
VMC’s security and encroachment removal director, Dr Mangesh Jaiswal said that two persons including a member of the cattle party and a cop were injured in the incident.
“Two persons have been detained by the police in connection with the incident,” Jaiswal added.
The most recent incidents of similar scuffles between members of the cattle party and livestock owners include the one on August 30 when a woman police sub-inspector was manhandled in the New VIP Road area. On August 25, members of the cattle team were targeted by women in the Bapod area of the city.
On July 2, a cattle team was mobbed near the Ajwa Road Ratribazaar and a buffalo impounded by them was freed in the subsequent melee.
