Man gets life term for wife’s murder

Berhampur: A local court on Friday sentenced a 36-year-old man to life imprisonment for killing his wife over dowry at Konkorada under Ganjam district’s Pattapur police station limits six years ago.
The convict, Sushant Bisoi, had poured kerosene on his wife Sangeeta and set her ablaze on December 17, 2016 at their home. Sangeeta, a mother of two children, succumbed to her injuries at MKCG Medical College and Hospital six days later.
Police arrested Sushant on the basis of a complaint filed by Sangeeta’s mother Sushama Sahu. “Additional district judge-11 Indu Sharma sentenced Sushant to life imprisonment after recording the statement of 20 witnesses and after examining the medical report and dying declaration of the deceased,” said additional public prosecutor Kureshu Gouda. He said the court has also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Sushant. If he defaults, Sushant will undergo another year of rigorous imprisonment.
