AHMEDABAD: The opening ceremony of the 36th edition of the National Games of India 2022, also known as Gujarat 2022, is likely to be inaugurated by Prime Minister
Narendra Modi on September 29. The games will be held in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, and Bhavnagar in Gujarat between September 27 and October 10. As per sources, the closing ceremony is likely to be held in Surat.
However, this is still in the discussion phase and the final decision on the date and place of the closing ceremony will be made soon.
Sources said that the opening ceremony will be held at Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera. As part of the games, around 35 sporting events will be held in six districts. Of these, around 10 of the events are likely to be held in Ahmedabad. Sources said that these events include water sports, football, and kabaddi.
Sources in Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) said the officials tried their best to get other sporting events such as tennis and skating to be held in the city but they are unlikely to be held here as sports facilities such as Riverfront Sports Complex do not have sufficient seating capacity. Sources said that the football and kabaddi events are likely to be held at the Transstadia Sports Complex located in the eastern part of the city while watersports will be held at the Sabarmati riverfront.
The remaining sporting events are to be held in Gandhinagar, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot and Bhavnagar for which several meetings are being held.
Sources said that around 25,000 people, including athletes and other sports staff, will visit the city for these events and the government officials are in the process of arranging for their stay.
