Kanpur: Food safety and drug administration department on Friday collected as many as 31 samples of food and edibles from Gwaltoli, Anand Bagh and P. Road areas under the food safety on wheels programme to create awareness among the public. The samples were tested before the public and food vendors.
According to the report, five samples have more colour than the standard quantity, and starch was found in three samples. Around 23 samples were passed in the lab tests, said Vijay Pratap Singh, assistant commissioner food-II/designated officer.
Giving details about the failed samples, he said the roasted grams collected from a shop failed as colour was found in it. The laddoo sample collected from another shop failed due to the presence of starch. Another sample of besan (gram flour) from the same shop also failed due to the presence of starch. Similarly, a sample of barfi collected from a shop also failed in the test due to the presence of starch.
The sample of turmeric powder collected from a shop failed due to the presence of colour. A sample of red chilli powder collected from a vendor failed the lab test due to presence of colour.
The designated officer said that all vendors whose samples had failed in the mobile lab tests have been warned. No other action has been taken against them, he added.
