Prayagraj: Rural voters of Prayagraj are way ahead of their urban counterparts in linking their Aadhaar cards to voter Id cards, reveals data from district election office.

Election Commission (EC) had started a campaign to link voter ID cards with Aadhaar cards to establish the identity of voters and authentication of entries in the electoral rolls as well as weed out duplications of voters by identifying registration of the name of the same person in more than one constituency or more than once in the same constituency. The campaign was started on August 1 and a special drive was conducted on August 7 and 21. As per data, in Allahabad North assembly constituency, which has witnessed the least poll percentage, mere 415 people from have applied for online and offline linking in first 22 days data of which is available so far. In comparison, 48,092 people have done so in rural dominated Bara assembly constituency alone.
In the same period, a total of 1,56,933 voters in Prayagraj have done the needful. Among these, 36,895 applications have come offline and 1,20,038 online, said district election officials. This is just a fraction of the total voters in Prayagraj. For the 2022 assembly polls, the district had over 46.27 registered voters, including over 25.16 lakh male and over 21.10 lakh female and 652 transgenders.
In the online applications, the district’s two urban assembly constituencies of Allahabad North and Allahabad South, are lagging among all the 12 assembly constituencies. Allahabad West is only ahead of Phulpur among the rural constituencies, officials said.
“People had the option of online and offline applications. The campaign concluded on August 31,” said ADM (administration) and assistant election officer of Prayagraj Harshdev Pandey.
