Ludhiana: Doraha police on Thursday night arrested two persons for the murder of a Nihang whose body was found in his makeshift hut on the banks of a canal in the area. The accused were identified as Amandeep Singh of Ganga Nagar area in Rajasthan and Kuldeep Singh of Fatehpur village near Isru in Khanna.
On Thursday morning, the body of 50-year-old Gurmail Singh of Nabha, who had been living in a makeshift camp (dera) near the canal in Doraha for many years, was found inside the hut. Police booked two persons in the case.
DSP Payal Harsimrat Singh said that preliminary probe suggested that the accused had come from Amritsar and killed Gurmail following an altercation that broke out after they consumed Bhang (Cannabis) in excess. The accused, who attacked Gurmail with a knife, were arrested from near Doraha on Thursday night.
Area resident Harjinder Singh said that he had seen two persons at the dera at around 7pm on Wednesday and at around 9am, when he came to serve tea, he found Gurmail Singh's body in a pool of blood.
Woman found deadA 29-year-old woman was found murdered at her house in Pratap Nagar on Friday afternoon. Her neighbour found her dead and informed her husband, after which police were informed. The deceased woman has been identified as
Lakshmi Bharati, 29, wife of Monu, a worker at a scrap shop. She is survived by her husband and two children.
Assistant Commissioner of Police, Industrial Area-B Jyoti Yadav said that Lakshmi used to pick her younger child from a play school nearby at noon every day. When she did not reach after 30 minutes, the teacher called her husband Monu, who asked a neighbour to check. When the woman reached their house, she found Lakshmi lying dead on the bed and called Monu. ACP Yadav said that the woman had injury marks on the neck and it looked like she had been strangled to death.
