LUCKNOW: Lucknow and nearby areas are set to be developed on the lines of Delhi-NCR with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath giving directions to authorities to prepare a proposal on this at the earliest. The area will be called Uttar Pradesh State Capital Region.
In a meeting with senior officials of the housing and urban planning department, Awas Vikas Parishad and all urban development authorities, the Chief Minister said that this area should include places like Unnao, Sitapur, Rae Bareli, Barabanki, Kanpur Nagar and Kanpur Dehat.
"State capital Lucknow is now equipped with state-of-the-art urban facilities. People from different cities want to come here and make it their permanent residence. The population is increasing in neighbouring districts as well and there are complaints of unplanned development. After studying and discussing all the dimensions, a detailed action plan should be submitted as soon as possible," the CM said.
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday directed the civic authorities to start the work on the Lucknow Green Corridor at the earliest. The scope of the Lucknow Municipal Corporation should be expanded, and immediate action should be taken for the revitalization of wetlands in Butler Lake and Chak Gajaria City.
With users of Lucknow Metro increasing, Yogi said a proposal for the development of the next phase of Lucknow Metro should be prepared and presented to him within a week. Till 2019, about 72,000 passengers were using the metro daily. “In view of Lucknow’s importance as the state capital, there is a need to establish a well-equipped convention centre here which can host world class events. A proposal for a project in an area of at least 35 acres should be prepared. The utility of Avadh Shilpgram needs to be increased. Useful exhibitions should be organized here at fortnightly intervals for the general public like MSME, skill development, and Hunar Haat,” he said.
He said that city development plans should be prepared for Lucknow, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Moradabad, Saharanpur, Jhansi, Mathura, Bareilly, Meerut, Agra, Chitrakoot, Varanasi and Prayagraj under the Leeds-2021 policy.
Focusing on Ayodhya, given its importance due to the construction of the Ram Temple, the CM said that it should be developed as a solar city which will give the world the message of energy conservation. “Work on murals at historical places, Ram Katha gallery, open-air theatre etc should be completed in time and a cultural mapping of the Ramayana tradition should be carried out. Ramayana galleries should also be constructed along the Ram Van Gaman Path,” he said.
“The government will provide all urban facilities to Ayodhya while preserving its ancient culture. There should be a facility for water purification through Vedic methods,” the CM said.
Directing officials to complete the ropeway project for darshan of Radha Rani in Barsana by December this year, the CM said that the ropeway to be built from the Cantt railway station to the Cathedral in Varanasi should also be taken up on priority
The CM pointed out there is a massive potential for growth in the retail estate sector, evident from the fact that in recent years, investment of about Rs 30,877 crore has come to this sector in the state. To attract more investors during the Global Investors Summit in January 2023, it will be necessary to simplify the Integrated Township Plan policy, with inputs from experts and investors. He said this policy should be ready by the end of September.
In colonies developed by the Urban Development Authority which have not been transferred to municipal corporations till now, it is the responsibility of the authority to provide basic facilities, he said.
Yogi said that the role of development authorities was important in achieving the goal of making UP a USD 1 trillion economy.
Planning for the next 50 years should be taken into account while scheduling development projects, the CM said.
