AHMEDABAD: A 42-year-old woman from Kalupur, who works as an advocate in the family court, was allegedly beaten by her husband after a failed mediation at the mediation centre of Gujarat high court. The woman's lawyer too was allegedly assaulted by her husband's lawyers. Dimple Shah, a resident of Kalupur, has filed a complaint against her husband Paras Shah, a resident of Thane in Maharashtra, at Sola police station.
The couple married in 2006 and have a 15-year-old daughter. They filed a divorce plea in 2008 and the matter is sub-judice. A family court had directed Paras to pay Rs 4,000 per month as alimony to Dimple. She had challenged the order before the Gujarat high court.
The HC ordered that she be paid Rs 15,000 per month, which Paras challenged before the Supreme Court. Later the apex court sent the case back to HC. While hearing the petition, the HC ordered for mediation in the case.
On Thursday afternoon, Dimple and her lawyer Balram Jain, and Paras and his lawyers J B Dastoor and Vijay Lodha, reached the HC's mediation centre. After several rounds of arguments, a mediator named Shailesh Parikh announced that mediation had failed, the FIR mentioned.
When Dimple and Jain were about to leave the mediation room, Paras's lawyers held Jain by his collar and began abusing him, she alleged in the FIR.
She further alleged that when she intervened to rescue her lawyer, Paras slapped her and assaulted Jain.
The staff of the mediation centre rescued Dimple and her advocate from the three. She alleged that her husband and his two lawyers threatened her, asking her to withdraw the case against him and vacate the house. Dimple also alleged that her husband threatened to kill her daughter.
She called up the police control room and filed a complaint. Paras and his lawyers have been booked for causing hurt, uttering abusive words, criminal intimidation and abetment.
