GURUGRAM: Hours after a BJP functionary was shot dead inside a garments showroom in Sadar Bazar, a 30-year-old scrap dealer was ambushed by a group of seven armed men on Pataudi-Bilaspur road in Bhora Kala village on Thursday night. He was rushed to a private hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Sumit, along with his friend and father, was returning home after providing meals to his workers around 10pm when the assailants on three bikes intercepted their two bikes and shot him dead. Police suspect business rivalry behind his killing. Three former business partners of the deceased are among the accused named in the murder case.

In fact, Sumit was riding pillion on his friend Mahesh’s bike while his father, Dinesh, was on another two-wheeler. “As soon as we reached Pataudi-Bilaspur road, the assailants intercepted our bikes and rained bullets on Sumit. After Sumit fell on the ground, the accused surrounded him and pumped bullets into his face and head,” Dinesh told TOI.
The accused fled on their bikes as Dinesh screamed for help and local people started gathering at the scene hearing the gunshots. With the help of the locals, Sumit was taken to Medanta hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
Sumit, a resident of Bhora Kala, started the scrap business with his friends — Amit, Prahalad and Joginder. The four worked together till 2017 when they parted ways. “He used to collect scrapped packaging boxes from industrial areas and sell them for recycling. Over the years, Sumit fared well in the business, while the others failed to make a mark. His former business partners were jealous of his progress,” said Dinesh.
After an autopsy, Sumit’s body was handed to his family on Friday. “The deceased had four bullet injuries, two in the head and two in the abdomen,” said Dr Sudhir.
Based on a complaint from Dinesh, a case was registered at Bilaspur police station under sections 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 302 (murder) of IPC and under the Arms Act against Prahalad alias Pintu, Joginder alias Kallu, Harender alias Hunny, Mohit, Bittu, Amit and Bhupender alias Bhola, all residents of Bilaspur. “We are conducting raids to nab the accused,” said ACP (crime) Preet Pal Sangwan.
