Haryana: Robbery case cracked, victim's father-in-law among four arrested

KARNAL: With the arrest of four persons, Panipat police claimed to have solved a case of robbery of Rs 4 lakh cash and jewelry worth lakhs from a house at Prakash Nagar in Panipat district on July 25 after taking a woman hostage at gunpoint.
Police said that the main accused, who plotted the robbery, has been identified as Sandeep of Panipat. He is the father-in-law of victim Jaganu.
The other accused have been identified as Kapil and Pankaj of Chandan Heri in Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh, and Sompal of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh.
The police have taken them on six-day remand as they are yet to recover the robbed cash and jewelry.
Superintendent of Police Shashank Kumar Sawan had announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for information about the miscreants.
Police said that Sandeep's daughter had married victim Jaganu in June this year and he noticed huge jewelry in the house of his son-in-law.
Thereafter, Sandeep went to Chhaprauli in UP to meet his friend Inam who further got him in contact with Kapil, Pankaj, and Sompal to commit this robbery. Sandeep informed them that his daughter and his son-in-law worked at a bank and only his son-in-law's mother stay at home.
On July 25 at noon, three masked men barged into the house and took the woman hostage at gunpoint, and decamped with Rs 4 lakhs cash and gold jewelry worth lakhs.
Subsequently, police registered a case under 342, 379B, 392, 34 and Arms Act at the Tehsil camp police station and handed over the investigation to the CIA-I team who cracked the case.
Panipat SP Shashank Kumar Sawan said," The accused were arrested from sector 18 on Thursday. The accused confessed to the crime. They were produced before the court which sent them 6 days of police remand. During the remand, the recovery of cash and jewelry will be made from the accused."
