HYDERABAD: In a significant development, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has given the green signal to the 182 km southern corridor of the prestigious 340 km Regional Ring Road (
RRR) by including it in the pan-India Bharatmala Pariyojana phase-2.
This approval has come within five months after Union minister
Nitin Gadkari assured the state of considering its request during a programme in state in April.
A private consultancy firm has also been appointed to study the 182 km alignment submitted by the Telangana government and prepare a detailed project report.
The 158 km northern part of the RRR was approved and the exercise to acquire 2,500 acres for this has started. It is being developed under phase-1 of Bharatmala Pariyojana. While the 158-km northern part alignment has been finalised via Sangareddy - Narsapur - Toopran - Gajwel - Jagdevpur - Bhongir - Choutuppal, the alignment submitted by the state for the southern corridor is Choutuppal - Narayanpur - Amangal - Shadnagar - Sangareddy.
Touted to be the country's largest ring road, the RRR in all will require over 9,000 acres, including about 5,000 acres for the 182 km southern stretch.
Telangana government plans to bear 50% of land acquisition cost and allocated 750 crore for it in its 2021-2022 budget. The total cost of the 340 km RRR is likely to be over 20,000 crore by the time it is completed.
