JMC team impounding stray cattle threatened

Rajkot: Civic teams desperately trying to rein in the stray cattle meance continue to face stiff resistance and attacks by the breeders.
A day after Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) team was attacked with chemicals during the drive, cattle breeders in Jamnagar clashed with the civic team on Friday, demanding the release of their animals, Police detained three people who threatened the Jamnagar Municipal Corporation (JMC) staff of seizing their vehicles if their cattle were not released.
Heated altercation broke out on Ranjit Sagar Road between a group of people and the civic team that had impounded their animals sauntering on the road.A police team accompanying the JMC staff detained three people for questioning following a complaint lodged by JMC.
Premsukh Delu police superintendent of Jamnagar said, “Those detained are not cattle owners but were trying to represent them. We will book them for obstructing government officials in discharging duty.”
They even misbehaved with police personnel also.
Municipal commissioner Vijay Kharadi said, “We have registered four FIRs in the last few days against cattle breeders. In some cases, when our staff asked them to keep their animals inside, they refused and challenged them to impound the cattle.”
Situation had turned tense in Jamnagar on Tuesday night too when a cow got injured during the drive. A mob of cow breeders rushed to a veterinary hospital where the cow was taken and demanded action against the team.
Four teams of JMC are working in three shifts with police protection for the last several days to keep stray cattle off the roads.
