PUNE: The state animal husbandry commissionerate has expedited vaccination of cattle as the lumpy skin disease (LSD) has now spread across 11 districts in the state, including Pune.
A total of 762 cases of LSD have been reported in the state, of which 560 have recovered, while 10 have succumbed till August 31. Jalgaon district has recorded nine deaths so far, while one death has been reported from Junnar taluka. The commissionerate has vaccinated over 1 lakh cattle so far.
Sachindra Pratap Singh, the state animal husbandry commissioner, in a media briefing on Thursday said that even though LSD is spreading across the districts, the situation is not yet worrisome. "We would like to urge people that whenever they see any kind of suspicious infection in animals, they should report it to the animal husbandry officials," he said. Asked if the state animal husbandry was considering banning interstate animal transportation, Singh said that a notification regarding it is likely to be issued soon.
