Belagavi: Former deputy CM Laxman Savadi escaped with minor injuries after his car topped and fell into a canal near Harigeri Cross in Raibag taluk on Wednesday evening. Besides the driver, Savadi’s personal assistant, and gunman were also in the car, and all of them sustained minor injuries. According to sources, the driver drove the car to the edge of canal to avoid an oncoming vehicle, but lost control over the vehicle. Police said the instant opening of the airbags saved those on board the car. Athani MLA Mahesh Kumathalli, Kudachi MLA P Rajeev and Rajya Sabha member Iranna Kadadi rushed to the spot and hospitalised them. A case has been registered at Harugeri police station. Since Thursday morning, a large number of people’s representatives and Savadi’s followers thronged the latter’s residence in Athani.
Drive on to popularise trian ticketing appHubballi: The Hubballi division has launched a drive at railway stations in its jurisdiction to promote the UTS On Mobile app that allows digital ticket booking for trains. Hareitha S, senior divisional commercial manager (coordination), said the app will not only promote cashless transactions, but also ensures hassle-free ticketing. She said passengers can book general tickets using this app from an originating station which is within 20km radius from their location. Frequent announcements, and display of posters have started at these railway stations to publicise the passengers app, complete with steps to download and using it. It can be downloaded from Google Play Store for android mobiles, Windows Store on Windows phones and Apple Store for iPhones. Helpdesks have also been set up for the same.
Free artificial limbs camp on SundayDharwad: Rotary Parivar Dharwad will organise a free artificial limbs camp at RLS High School and PU College here on September 4 from 8am to 2pm. Both upper limbs (hands) and lower limbs (legs) will be given free of cost to the needy. It will be held in two stages — a screening measurement camp and a fitment Camp. The Sunday’s camp will be the first stage where measurements of the limbs of the needy by experts. The date of the fitment camp will be announced at a later date, said a release.

Awards for SSLC and PU studentsHubballi: The Veerashaiva Sangatana Samiti and other organisations will organise Pratibha Puraskar for SSLC and PU students on September 3 at Sawai Gandharva Hall in Hubballi. Samiti convenor Mallikarjun Sawakar said the students who scored 95% marks in SSLC and second PU examinations will be given a talent award with silver and a certificate.
