CHATRA: A joint team of police and 190 CRPF Battalion on Thursday arrested Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC) zonal commander Bhairo Ganjhu and seized a US-made rifle used by the American Army besides one Insaas rifle that had been looted from
Jharkhand police from his possession.
Acting on a tip-off about the presence of TSPC in the Kasiyatu area of Simaria forest range, sources said Chatra superintendent of police (SP) Rakesh Ranjan formed a team under sub-divisonal police officer (SDPO) Ashok Priyadarshi.
Sources said Bhairo alias Bhaskar alias Veerapan was arrested and an M4A15.56MM rifle, which is an advance rifle used by the
US Army, and another 5.56MM Insaas rifle that had been looted from Jharkhand police were found from his possession.
Ranjan said, “Bhairo was active in Chatra, Latehar, and Palamu districts and wanted in over 16 cases of loot, murder, besides those related to the Arms Act. One of the two rifles we found belongs to the US government. We are probing how he got the two rifles and from where. We also found three magazines of US rifle, 230 rounds of bullets of the Insaas of Jharkhand police, live bullets in huge quantities, beside party literature from his possession.”
Terming the arrest as a big success, police officials said it is a big blow for the TSPC, which got weakened in this area due to the surrender and arrest of its top guns in the past few months.
