Karnataka: Nine arrested for assault on Sullia student

MANGALURU: A government college student was assaulted allegedly by a few students from the same college and another institute for talking to a Hindu girl in Sullia on Tuesday. Sullia police have arrested nine students in the case.
The victim is Mohammed Saneef, 19, a resident of Jalsur in Sullia. He had accused some students of allegedly assaulting him with sticks and issuing a life threat to him.
Muslim student was taken to college ground and assaulted
Saneef, a first-year BCom student at Government First-Grade College at Kodialbail in Kasaba village of Sullia taluk, said the Hindu girl from the same college was his friend. Those students, who opposed Saneef talking to the girl in the college, took him to the college ground and assaulted him.
Dakshina Kannada superintendent of police Rishikesh Sonawane said the arrested have been identified as Thanuj, Mokshith, Deekshith, Akshay, Prajwal, Charan, Dhanush, Nishchay and Pawan.
The group warned him against talking to the girl again. Later, family members took him to the Government Hospital in Sullia where he received treatment for his wounds, the SP said.
