NOIDA: A man accused in at least 12 cases, including murder and extortion, and believed to be a member of the Sunder Bhati gang died of bullet injuries after 5-6 unidentified persons on three motorcycles allegedly shot at him in Jewar on Thursday evening.
Police said they got information that Nagesh had been attacked in Neemka village of Jewar around 7.30pm. "A team rushed him to the Kailash Hospital in the city, where he died during treatment," said Abhishek Verma, deputy commissioner of police, Greater Noida.
"Nagesh had five bullet wounds. Eyewitnesses said there were around 5-6 people on three different bikes who came and fired at him," the DCP added.
Police officials said they suspect gang rivalry or personal enmity as possible reasons for the attack. Teams have been formed to investigate the case, they said.
"We are scanning CCTV footage and figuring out his criminal history to know more about the gang members or his rivals. Further investigation is underway," a senior police officer said.
Nagesh was accused in several cases of murder, loot and extortion, said additional deputy commissioner of police (Greater Noida) Vishal Pandey said.
"We are verifying the facts about his association with the Sunder Bhati gang. But he was a criminal and had around a dozen cases against him," Pandey said.
Operational across Delhi-NCR, the Sunder Bhati gang is accused of involvement in at least 50 cases of murder, attempt to murder, robbery, abduction, ransom among other offences.
