LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Police's Special Task Force (STF) bagged the prestigious FICCI Smart Policing Award 2022 for its exemplary work done using an artificial intelligence platform JARVIS for voice identification of criminals.
Explaining the application of software, ADG (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar said that Uttar Pradesh is the first state to use software and artificial intelligence for monitoring the voice of criminals who evade arrest and frequently change their mobile numbers to ensure they cannot be tracked.
"But one thing remains constant is their voice but to identify the same voice amongst the massive audio files is an onerous task. Hence, to overcome this challenge UP STF initiated an AI-powered audio analytics technology with an Indian start-up to identify any speaker automatically speaking in any language from a given audio sample of seven-ten seconds," said Kumar.
Kumar also said that apart from identifying voices, the software also helped in Covid-19 management which resulted in zero casualties in UP prisons during the Covid-19 pandemic.
ADG, STF, Amitabh Yash told TOI that it is for the first time a database has been compiled of audio files of criminals who are repeat offenders.
"We have achieved convictions of 145 criminals after implementation of the technology since October 2021," said Yash.
DSP, STF, Deepak Kumar Singh, said that the technology is independent of text and language. Hence its vast scope enables it to provide convictions bereft of variation in language and dialects.
