Jaipur: Rajpura village under Chapar police station area of Churu has not witnessed any crime since January 1, 2015 and it is labelled as “crime-free” village by the Rajasthan police.
Similarly, there are 1,062 villages in Rajasthan where no criminal case was registered since January 1, 2015.
Senior police officers attributed it to stronger community policing and also intervention of senior citizens in solving petty issues that surface in villages.
“Court kacheri ko ke faydo, koi choti moti baat aiyan hi nibta levan (What is the utility of courts, we resolve smaller issue on our own),” said Darshran Singh, a native of Karnisar village under Taranagar police station of Churu.
Police have decided to felicitate 16 such crime-free villages in their district. “We are felicitating them just to tell others that if they too will come in the same category, they too will get this recognition. We have 10 police stations and 16 crime-free villages. Certainly, our focus is to make more villages crime free,” said Digant Anand, superintendent of police, Churu.
Ravi Prakash Meharda, additional director general (crime), said, “The idea is to increase this number of villages having no crime every year. For this our SHOs, deputy superintendent of police, additional SPs and SPs take time to time meetings with the villagers. We have 1,062 villages in Rajasthan where no crime has taken place since January 1, 2015.”
He added that maximum number of such villages are in Jaisalmer where there are 209 villages where no crime has taken place in the past seven years. “We have learnt that in these villages if any smaller crime takes place, they don’t approach the police and resolve the issue within the village. These are mainly the villages where 50 to 100 families live together,” Meharda added.
Meanwhile Kota (Rural), Bundi and Ajmer are the districts where they have 3 villages each having crime free status since 2015.
Senior police officers stated that through sports events, religious events and other efforts are on to increase the number of villages.
