Global coffee giant Starbucks has appointed Indian-origin Laxman Narasimhan, a veteran of PepsiCo and other consumer brands, as its next Chief Executive Officer (CEO). He will be joining the company's Board of Directors, Starbucks said.

Narasimhan has joined the growing cohort of Indian-origin business leaders such as Parag Agrawal, Leena Nair, Satya Nadella and Sundar Pichai who are currently at the helm of multinational corporations.

Business tycoon Anand Mahindra applauded the good news by calling the appointment of Indian-origin CEOs an "unstoppable trend".

The 67-year-old chairman of corporation took to his Twitter handle on Friday to share his pride over the appointment of Narasimhan as the new CEO of Starbucks.

"What was initially a trickle of water has turned into a Tsunami. The appointment of Indian-origin CEOs at the world’s most iconic companies is now an unstoppable trend," Mahindra wrote on Twitter where he enjoys a massive following list of over 9.5 million users.

Narasimhan, 55 was previously the CEO of UK-based Reckitt Benckiser, a multinational consumer health, hygiene and nutrition company.

Mahindra further noted that the reason behind Indian-origin bosses taking over the leadership is because most international boardrooms consider them to be 'safe' bets.
"International boardrooms consider them to be almost ‘safe’ leadership bets," the billionaire said.

Narasimhan will join Starbucks as incoming CEO on October 1, 2022 after relocating from London to the Seattle area and will work closely with Howard Schultz, the interim CEO, before assuming the leadership role and joining the Board on April 1, 2023.
