GURUGRAM: Residents of various colonies and sectors have urged MCG to start the fogging drive to check the spread of dengue and other vector borne diseases. Residents claimed they have been urging the MCG to initiate fogging since the beginning of monsoon season but the civic body has been reluctant to do so. Now with four cases reported on Tuesday, the residents have again urged the civic body to prepare a roster plan to prevent breeding of mosquitoes.
“MCG needs to start fogging and anti-larvicidal activity without waiting for the dengue to spread. These are preventive measures. Moreover, it needs to be ensured that the entire area is covered for which the RWAs need to be involved,” said Chaitali Mandhotra, RWA member of Ardee City.
Residents fear that if no preventative measures are taken immediately, the cases of dengue, malaria and chikungunya would increase manifold.
“If fogging is delayed any further, we could face serious cases of dengue and malaria,” said Lalit Suraj Bhola, general secretary of Sector 9 A RWA.
Meanwhile, some RWAs are planning to conduct the fogging drives themselves. “There are already two suspected cases of vector-borne disease in our colony and we have informed the MCG too but they are responding late which does not serve the purpose,” said Kusum Sharma, chairperson of all development committees, Suncity RWA.
MCG officials said the government has allowed fogging only in the areas that have confirmed cases. “We have already formed 39 teams carrying out larvicidal activities in all the wards and the extended areas,” said Ashish Singla, senior medical officer at MCG.
