Sachin Pilot talks to media at his residence in Jaipur on Wednesday
JAIPUR: Former deputy chief minister of Rajasthan Sachin Pilot on Wednesday said "in politics what is happening is not visible and what is visible is not happening". He was replying to a question on a non-Gandhi, most likely Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, being considered for the post of Congress president. Pilot was speaking to reporters at his residence on his return from Delhi.
Congress is the only party that has adopted a democratic process to elect its new president and whoever wishes to contest could file nominations, Pilot said. "When was such an election held in the BJP, which claims to be the largest political party in the world," he asked.
On senior Congress leader Gulam Nabi Azad's resignation from the party, Pilot said, "Azad got so much from the party and government in the last 50 years of his association, holding different positions. But when his turn came to return the favour to the party in a difficult time, he left Congress. Only time will tell the merit of his decision."

He also expressed concern over the recent NCRB data that put Rajasthan at the top of the chart in crimes against SCs/STs.
The former deputy CM said that just having law was not enough to protect the weaker sections. Laws have to be effectively enforced to instill fear among the perpetrators of such crimes. He demanded that the state SC commission be given constitutional status like in many other states.
Those who have been playing politics in the name of cows have not bothered to declare the lumpy skin disease a pandemic, Pilot alleged.
He said the disease has claimed thousands of cows and spread to many states, and state governments were being left to fend for themselves.
The former deputy CM said the party's 'Halla Bol' rally against price rise being organised in Delhi on September 4 will help open the eyes of the Centre to the plight of the common man, who is reeling under unprecedented price rise and unemployment. He said the Centre has been cleverly trying to divert the attention of the people from the burning issues by playing divisive politics.
Lauding the 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' by Congress politician Rahul Gandhi which began on September 7 from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, he said it would help to connect the party with the people and foster harmony and brotherhood among communities and castes.
