PALAKKAD: The arguments on the bail plea of two people accused, who are curently in jail, in the 2017 deaths of two minor Dalit girls in Walayar were completed on Wednesday. The verdict on the bail for the two accused was adjourned to Friday.
Judge Jayawanth L heard the public prosecutor, counsel for the girls' mother Rajesh M Menon and counsel for the accused on Wednesday.
The public prosecutor and the mother's counsel opposed the bail to the accused, stating that if they are given bail, they could influence witnesses in the case. But the counsel for the accused said that since there was no such charge against the accused earlier, they should be granted bail as the case is being reinvestigated.
The Palakkad First Additional District Sessions Court (Pocso) judge, in his earlier order, directed further investigation of the case and expressed the court's displeasure in the chargesheet filed by the CBI special investigation team.
The mother, in her petition, said that her daughters were murdered by those who had exploited them. There is no chance of them committing suicide by hanging in the house. The postmortem report also indicated that the girls were murdered. TNN
