Kota: A seven-month-pregnant woman was mowed down by a speeding truck and killed on the spot while her husband, an army man, sustained minor injuries on Nayapur overbridge under Nayapura police station late on Tuesday night.
The accident took place at about 9:30pm after the couple fell on the road when their Scooty slipped on gravel lying on the road due to an ongoing construction work. The woman’s head was crushed under a wheel of the truck, and she died on the spot, said officials of Nayapura police station. The deceased woman was married around nine months ago and was seven months pregnant, said people who knew the family. It is claimed to be the 29th death on this stretch of the road caused by the craters on it and heaps of construction material lying on it ever since the ongoing construction work started under the Smart City Project.
The deceased woman was identified as Babina Gurjar (40), who was riding pillion on the Scooty her husband Lokesh Gurjar (40), an army man posted in Kota, was riding. The couple, residents of Karoli district, were coming towards Kunhari through Nayapura overbridge when the accident took place.
Lokesh Gurjar was rushed to the army hospital in the city and discharged after primary treatment. His wife’s body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem on Wednesday morning.
“A case of negligent driving has been lodged against the truck driver, who has been arrested and his vehicle seized. Further investigation into the matter is underway,” said Nayapura police station SHO Bhupendra Singh.
