Rally from Kolkata heart today 'to thank Unesco'

KOLKATA: Some private schools have either issued notices for early dispersal or have rescheduled classes, or have declared a holiday on Thursday, September 1, because of the mega heritage rally. Most school authorities apprehend students may face trouble while returning home due to traffic congestion.
Classes V-XII of Heritage School have exams on Thursday, but will be allowed to leave campus by 11.30am. Nursery to Class IV will be closed. St Lawrence School has issued a closure notice; Birla Bharati School has declared a half day wherein exams will be over by 12pm and the school will be closed by 12.15pm; Lakshimat Singhania Academy has declared a holiday for classes till IV; South City International - from classes VI-XII - La Martiniere and Birla High have issued notices for early dispersal. Junior classes at South City International School and Assembly of God Church have been shifted to the virtual mode.
Half-yearly exams are on at several private schools, including Don Bosco Park Circus, Birla High School (classes III-XII), and Lakshmipat Singhania Academy (classes VI-XII) are having offline half-yearly exams.
Birla High School principal Loveleen Sehgal said, "Students will sit for the exam and leave by 11.30am. Junior classes till Class II will have regular classes and they will also leave by 11.30am. Teachers will leave by 12.30pm."
Lakshmipat Singhania Academy director Meena Kak said, "Students of classes VI-XII have half-yearly exams. So we have decided to start an hour early, at 8am, on Thursday. Students will leave by 11am-11.15am. Junior classes till V have a holiday."
Senior classes at Indus Valley World School have offline practical exams on Thursday, that have been rescheduled. "We have issued a notice for rescheduling practical examinations for classes XI-XII to September 2," said Amita Prasad, director.
Second summative exams are being held at The BSS School. Principal Sunita Sen said, "Students will finish their papers and leave school by 12.30pm."
Students of various government and government-aided schools will participate in the mega rally. Fifty students of Bethune School will be participating and the scheduled exams on Thursday have been pushed back to September 6. Hindu School has declared a holiday for classes VI-X; 90 students from classes XI-XII and 10 teachers will participate in the rally.
