In a video going viral on social media, a man who is reportedly a Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) worker, can be seen slapping a woman on camera and pushing her down.
The man seems to have slapped the woman as she stopped him from placing a poster in front of her shop. As the woman stood her ground and argued back, he pushed her down.
Reports said the incident took place on in front of her shop of August 28. ANI, which reported the incident, did not identify the man, but TOI and other news outlets identified him as a worker of the MNS led by Raj Thackeray.
Later, Mohammed Zubair, co-founder of Alt News, also alleged that the 'Man hitting & pushing a woman' is Vinod Argile from MNS.
Atul Bhatkhalkar, Maharashtra BJP leader, condemned the incident and assured of strict action against the accused.
Bhatkhalkar told Times Now that the Eknath Shinde and BJP alliance government will not tolerate such incidents and will take speedy and strict action against the accused, despite his political affiliation.
Abha Singh, activist and lawyer, strongly condemned the 'indecent' incident.
"These are not MNS workers, they are MNS 'goons'. Earlier also, the MNS workers had beaten up taxi walas and bhaji walas. Their only motive is to get themselves noticed as Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections are approaching," Singh said.
Netizens also condemned the incident. One Twitter user asked the Mumbai police to take action and said, "@MumbaiPolice Make sure he learns to respect women !"
Another user said, "Sad show of power. Police should take action so women who genuinely seek help don't restore to UNDESIRED way get upperhand in fight."
