Lucknow: Transplants milestone for Medanta hospital

LUCKNOW: Medanta Hospital on Wednesday achieved the milestone of completing 101 successful kidney transplants.
Hospital director Dr Rakesh Kapoor said, "The 101th transplant was done on a 22-year-old youth from Varanasi with his 53-year-old mother being the donor." "We are now the only private hospital in eastern Uttar Pradesh to accomplish this feat, that too within a span of three years of its inception," he added.
Dr RK Sharma, head of nephrology department at the hospital, said, "Advancement in medicine has made ABO incompatible (unmatched blood groups transplants) kidney transplants possible between some recipients and living donors. With this technique, kidney transplants are being done even if the patient and the donor belong to different blood groups."
