SP delegation has arrived in Noida to meet Shrikant Tyagi's wife, Anu Tyagi.

Delhi Live Updates, September 2: A Noida court Friday rejected the bail application of Shrikant Tyagi, arrested for assaulting a woman at Grand Omaxe society last month, for a case registered under the Gangster Act. The bail plea was submitted by Tyagi before the court of a Special Judge (gangster court). Tyagi was arrested on August 9 by Noida police in Meerut. According to Sushil Bhati, the lawyer appearing for Tyagi, the prosecution opposed bail relying on the criminal history of the accused in nine cases registered against him under various sections of the IPC.

BJP leader Sambit Patra said the party has decided to stick to five questions on the liquor policy to take on the Aam Aadmi Party. “Kejriwal ji, please answer these five questions: Why was the commission’s recommendation kept in abeyance? How were many bottles sold, but less money came in? Why did you give contracts to a blacklisted company? Why did you increase the wholesaler’s commission from 2% to 12%? Why did you waive Rs 144 crore?” he said.

As tensions continue to mount between the ruling AAP government and the BJP, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday flagged the number of cases that have been filed against his party’s MLAs in recent months. “I have brought some data with me. There have been 169 cases against 49 of our MLAs so far,” Kejriwal said in the Delhi Assembly. “We are a small party. We have just been born but there are 169 cases. Of these, 134 have been closed.” The Delhi CM added that investigation agencies have not been able to prove any of the BJP’s corruption allegations. He went on to list two demands

Steep jump in fake notes seizure by Delhi Police in 2021: NCRB data

In the last year, the Delhi Police has recorded an exponential rise of 1342% in the recovery of fake Indian currency notes (FICN). Police said there are multiple gangs, operating at the state and international level, which are bringing in fake notes from Bihar, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh or via Bangladesh, Pakistan and Nepal.

According to National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) data for 2021 specific to the national capital, more than 50,151 fake currency notes were recovered last year with a value of Rs 2.05 crore. In 2020, during the lockdown when travel was prohibited, only 3,476 fake currency notes were recovered with a value of Rs 4.16 lakh.

“The gangs mostly work through India-Nepal or India-Bangladesh borders because they are porous. After demonetisation in 2016, there was a break in the circulation of FICN from foreign countries but the gangs have started smuggling notes again. The recovered notes are of high quality and can’t be identified with the naked eye. They have the same colour, marks, security threads, texture etc,” said a police officer. Read more.
