The NSE Nifty index closed 216.5 points down at 17542.8, while BSE Sensex ended down 770.48 points at 58766.59.
On the other hand, .(down 3.88 per cent), .(down 2.94 per cent), .(down 2.81 per cent), .(down 2.47 per cent) and .(down 2.45 per cent) were among the top losers of the day.
