Chandrapur: The Chandrapur Super Thermal Power Station (CSTPS) has selected six graduation and post-graduation engineering students from Government Engineering College (GEC), Chandrapur, as research assistants. These researchers would provide impetus and scope to new research and improvements while assisting the power plant in day-to-day problems in the highly complex and technical nature of power generation.
CSTPS has signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) with GEC Chandrapur to engage these students in research work. The MOU was signed in the presence of chief engineer, CSTP, Pankaj Sapate and GEC principal Dr SG Akojwar.
Mahagenco is going to recruit 60 research assistants from nine engineering government colleges from Nagpur, Pune, Aurangabad, Mumbai, Raigad, Karad, Amravati, Chandrapur and Jalgaon. Mahagenco intends to increase the research spirit among students, while helping them earn money along with it, officials said.
Engineering streams like electrical, mechanical, civil, instrumentation have unique importance in thermal power generation. The research assistants would explore and investigate into aspects like minimum plant utilization, optimal manpower utilization, water, steam fuel, power saving, quality marking, root cause analysis of problems, renovation of old power generation unit, modernization, quality management of ash and coal, environmental balance, climate change, pollution control, opportunities of non-conventional energy, adoption of new technologies, national and international level research development studies, and would submit project reports with their recommendations.
“As the young generation is at the forefront of modern technology, Mahagenco has provided this golden opportunity for youth pursuing engineering education. The research assistants pursuing post-graduate studies will be given a stipend of Rs25,000 per month for one year, while those pursuing graduation will get Rs20,000 stipend per month for three months,” officials said.
