PUNE: The Pune Metro's operation and command centre (OCC) is ready and will be brought into use in the next 15 days, officials in the know said.
The centre will monitor the movement of trains, signaling and telecommunication systems of two Metro corridors, which will cover a distance of 33km in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, including the 33 stations located along these routes.
The OCC has been set up at the Range Hills depot and also has the capacity to cater to the Metro's proposed extensions in Phase 2. The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MahaMetro) at present operates a temporary command centre from the Phugewadi station. Now, all operations from the Phugewadi facility are being shifted to the new location.
Officials from MahaMetro said, "The new place is an advanced centre, with teams deployed round-the-clock to monitor movement of all trains on Metro routes. The trains currently run at a frequency of every 30 minutes on two stretches, but the centre can monitor train movement even if frequency is increased to every two minutes."
MahaMetro has commenced operations from 10 stations for now. These stations will be connected to the command centre over the next few days. The centre will coordinate with all the key departments and receive signals from commuters if they use emergency buttons.
