Newborn girl child found abandoned

Colva: A newborn girl child was found abandoned near the sewerage treatment plant at Sirvodem, Margao, on Thursday morning. The infant was found by a group of people who were alerted to her presence by her cries.
Margao police inspector Tulsidas Naik said that they received a call from the people about an abandoned infant. The rescued infant was admitted to South Goa district hospital.
According to the people at Sirvodem, they heard the cries of a baby and, on conducting a search, found the infant among the bushes, wrapped in paper. A source who did not want to be named said that initially they were scared to pick the child from the bushes till the police arrived.
“But we could not bear the sight of the baby nor its cries as she was covered with ants. The moment the police arrived we handed over the baby and requested them to immediately rush her to the district hospital for urgent medical treatment which the police did,” the source said.
Naik said that they have registered an offence nder Section 317 of the IPC and Section 8(1) of the Goa Children’s Act. tnn
