PUNE: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will introduce 150 mobile immersion tanks for the Ganesh festival. Preparations have also been made at the makeshift immersion tanks in different parts of the city. The first immersion will be on Thursday, where the devotees who celebrate the festival for one and half days will immerse the idols.
The civic administration had started the initiative of mobile immersion tanks in 2020 and continued it in 2021. It was introduced during Covid restrictions to avoid crowding and reduce the spread of virus. Filled with water, they are sent to housing societies. The devotees were allowed to immerse the idols on the premises of their societies in these tanks. The initiative was also taken to promote eco-friendly immersion. PMC doubled the number of tanks from 30 to 60 in 2021.
The civic administration will spend nearly Rs 1.3 crore on this initiative. "The civic administration should stop wastage of funds on this project.Makeshift tanks and ghats have been created for immersion," Sajag Nagrik Manch, a citizens group, said in a press statement.
As per the PMC, it has made arrangements at 303 places for immersion. These arrangements have also been done in the merged villages.
All immersion ghats have been illuminated and generators will supply power. Lifeguards and helpers will be deputed at the immersion points .
People can take their idols to Amruteshwar temple, Pulachiwadi, Deccan causeway, Omkareshwar temple, Garware College causeway, Panchaleshwar, Ashtabhuja Devi temple , Sangam bridge, Bund Garden,Vitthal temple, Khandujibaba chowk, Bapu ghat, Thosarpaga, Chima udyan,Vishrantwadi, Yerawada, Bopodi, Aundh, Baner, SM Joshi bridge, Dattawadi, Rajaram Bridge, Katraj lake, Alka Talkies, Someshwarwadi, Pashan, Warje, Kharadigaon, Holkar Bridge, Sasanenagar and Unnatinagar.
Floral offerings can be deposited in containers.
