PIMPRI CHINCHWAD: Sangvi, Ravet, Chinchwad and Pimple Saudagar, among many other civic areas in the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) limits, are reporting piling up of garbage as well as rampant dumping of construction waste.
Activists have blamed the inefficiency of the civic body to prevent illegal dumping despite dedicated squads and a WhatsApp chatbot launched to prevent such activities.

Unattended, rotting garbage is a threat to residents’ health. The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation authorities should take serious note of it and ensure carting of trash every day. Residents should also leave garbage only at designated spots. The civic authorities should fine those dumping garbage anywhere else
Activist Maruti Bhapkar said the civic body had removed all the dustbins a few months ago. Residents, however, now throw away their trash in the open.
"I live in Mohannagar, and there are many places here where people throw their garbage in the open. The situation in the nearby Anandnagar no different. It is even worse in many slum areas. The garbage collection van makes just one round in a day, resulting in waste lying throughout the day in many places. The situation was no better earlier. It has now become worse."
"We have raised this issue in the past 'Jansamvad Sabha' (citizens meet). However, no concrete action has been taken," he said.
Vijay Jadhav, a resident of Old Sangvi, said that people's habit of dumping waste in the open was still there. There must be some action against errant citizens. Even though dust bins have been removed, people are familiar with these places and keep dumping their garbage there.
Kunal Londhe, a resident of Pimple Gurav, said apart from the civic body, citizens also need to act responsibly when it comes to dumping garbage in the open. Those found to be discarding the waste on the streets should be penalised.
PCMC additional commissioner Vikas Dhakane said he would look into the issue and refrained from commenting further.
The PCMC, aiming at the first rank in the Swachh Bharat ranking, wants to focus on garbage management (collection, transportation, processing and disposal), said an officialof the civic body .
