CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government on Wednesday declared two colonies of district Nawanshahr and Fazilka as African Swine Fever (ASF) affected zones. The National High Security Animal Disease Institute, Bhopal, has confirmed ASF in the samples from these areas.
Punjab animal husbandry, fisheries and dairy development minister Laljit Singh Bhullar said that for the prevention of the disease in Colony Musapur Road of district Nawanshahr and Badal Colony of district Fazilka, strict restrictions have been imposed as per rules. Bhullar added that compensation to farmers will be given only for the swine culling done by the department within the ‘infected zone’ of one kilometre radius of the epicenter notified by the department.
