The NSE Nifty index ended the session 216.5 points down at 17542.8, while BSE Sensex fell 770.48 points to 58766.59.
In the Nifty index, Ltd.(up 3.55 per cent), .(up 2.62 per cent), .(up 1.62 per cent), .(up 1.57 per cent) and .(up 1.37 per cent) stood among the top gainers.
On the other hand, .(down 3.88 per cent), .(down 2.94 per cent), .(down 2.81 per cent), .(down 2.47 per cent) and .(down 2.45 per cent) were among the top losers of the day.
