Kanpur: A team of the Income Tax officials on Wednesday raided the houses and establishments of two property dealers---Raju Chauhan and Deshraj Kushwaha in the city.
This year a close relative of Rajesh Singh Yadav, deputy commissioner in the industries department had sold 12-12 bighas of land to both these property dealers.
The evidence that besides cash, transactions were also done through banks was found in the raid conducted at the residence of Rajesh Singh Yadav in June 2022 in the city. “This raid is a sequel to the raid conducted at Yadav's place in June,” said a source in the IT department.
Sources informed that the Income Tax officials have so far taken possession of documents of 20 properties from Raju Chauhan's residence. “Besides some jewellery, cash has also been found”, the sources added.
“Meanwhile, the IT sleuths are yet to trace the whereabouts of Deshraj Singh Kushwaha. His last location was found in Lucknow after which his mobile was switched off,” the sources further said. Deshraj Singh Kushwaha, who had contested the election of corporator as an independent candidate in 2017, is said to be close to a leader who was a minister in the BSP government.
The Income Tax department on Wednesday morning raided Raju Chauhan's residence at Panki Gangaganj, a marriage lawn in Kapili, Deshraj Singh Kushwaha's house in Rawatpur and a farm house in Kapili.
However, the officials did not find anything in the marriage lawn and the farm house of Chauhan and Kushwaha. They thereafter raided the residences of the property dealers.
According to sources, Rajesh Singh Yadav, deputy commissioner in the industries department, also had the responsibility of Vishwakarma Shram Yojana. “The scam in the name of supply of equipment in that scheme was also reported at that time,” the sources added.
To recall, the Income Tax department in the month of June had raided the residence of Rajesh Singh Yadav, in which documents of 10 properties were found. The I-T officials then had retrieved the data from the mobile phones after which the names of many others also came to the fore.
