THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Ahead of Thiruvonam, Milma launched its food truck, a KSRTC bus turned into a tea-and-snacks joint and sales outlet, near the Central bus station of KSRTC at Thampanoor in the state capital on Wednesday.
Animal husbandry and dairy development minister J Chinchurani inaugurated the food truck, at a function presided over by transport minister Antony Raju.
Speaking on the occasion, Chinchurani said a subsidy of Rs 4 will be given to dairy farmers on each litre of milk procured from them as an 'Onam bonanza'. "Milma has, of late, been making great efforts in stepping up production, diversification and marketing of its products. As a result, Milma's products have now reached even foreign markets," she said.
The food trucks are being set up in various bus depots of KSRTC as part of the Shops-on-Wheel project as a joint initiative of KSRTC and Milma, said Raju.
The food truck at Thampanoor is the third one in the southern region, the others being located in East Fort in the city and at the Karunagappally KSRTC bus depot. Similar food trucks will soon be launched in Kayamkulam, Adoor, Pandalam, Kollam, Attingal, Chadayamangalam, Kattakada, Neyyattinkara and Nedumangad.
The interior of a bus has been remodelled into a restaurant furnished with chairs and tables for serving tea and snacks. One side of the bus has been turned into a counter for display and sale of Milma's products. Either side of the bus will feature advertisements of various Milma's products.
