THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The cabinet has decided to confer a reward of Rs 20 lakh on Eldhose Paul, who bagged the gold medal in the recently concluded
Commonwealth Games at Birmingham in England.
In addition, rewards of Rs 10 lakh each will be conferred on Abdulla Aboobackar, M Sreeshankar, PR Sreejesh, Treesa Jolly and Chess Olympiad medal winner Nihal Sarin.
Though he lost a medal by a whisker, SL Narayanan, who also had displayed a notable performance in the Chess Olympiad, will be conferred with a reward of Rs 5 lakh, the cabinet decided. The cabinet also decided to appoint Paul, Aboobackar, Sreeshankar and Jolly to government service from the 50 posts earmarked for sports quota appointments.
Displaced Vizhinjam families to get 5.5k per monthThe cabinet has approved a resettlement package under which a grant of Rs 5,500 will be given to each of the families displaced by the Vizhinjam port project. The assistance will be granted every month till they are permanently resettled in their own house. The funds required for this will be raised by revenue (disaster management), fisheries and finance departments.The cabinet has also decided to house the people staying at various rehabilitation centres in the coastal areas in the flat to be constructed at Muttathara. The Vizhinjam Samara Samithi, however, said it will not call off the protests until the port construction is stopped. Samithi convener Eujin Parera said the government was not sincere in meeting the demands of the fishermen.
Wakf board appointments: The cabinet on Wednesday gave ratification to the bill to cancel the decision to hand over appointments in Wakf board to the state public service commission. The government had backtracked from its earlier decision to hand over the appointments in the Wakf board to the public service commission. The announcement in this regard was made by the CM in the assembly on July 20, 2022.
Onam gift: The cabinet decided to grant Rs 1,000 each as Onam gift to 60,602 tribal community members who are above 60 years. Funds for the purpose will be met from the chief minister's distress relief fund.
Duty Waiver: The cabinet decided to waive off stamp duty and registration fee, which would come to Rs 3.50 crore for registering the agreement between Kerala state road transport corporation (KSRTC) and the State Bank of India for availing Rs 50 crore for immediate expenses of the corporation.
Life Mission: The cabinet decided to unify the funds sanctioned for the construction of houses for tribespeople inside wildlife sanctuaries, peripheries, and extremely remote places under the Life Mission, as Rs 6 lakh.
