Calangute: Water resources minister Subhash Shirodkar has said that it was unfair to criticise the government after Goa was declared as the first state to provide tap water connections to all households under the ‘Har Ghar Jal' scheme.
Speaking to reportrs at Parra recently, Shirodkar said for all practical purposes 100% of households are today connected to the water pipeline network.
“There are a few households where because of family and legal disputes there are no water connections. Out of 8,000 houses, eight may not have water connections,” he claimed.
Replying to queries on water supply, Shirodkar said that there is no shortage of water coming from the Tillari project.
“It is because of Tillari and Anjunem that today North Goa is getting enough water. But we need to improve the water distribution network in some areas,” Shirodkar said.
He said it is incorrect to say that farmers are unable to cultivate agricultural land in Bardez areas such as Guirim and Parra because the irrigation canals bringing water from the Tillari project to these villages are damaged.
