Three PDS rice smugglers arrested near Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: The Sulur police in Coimbatore district nabbed three ration rice smugglers during a vehicle check at Sangothipalayam on Wednesday. The police seized nine tonne of ration rice and three vehicles used for transporting it.
Grade II police constables Nagarjunan and Jaihind attached to the Sulur police station were checking vehicles at Sangothipalayam in the early hours of Wednesday. They stopped a car, a minitruck and a goods autorickshaw laden with around nine tonne of rice meant for the public distribution system (PDS).
On seeing the cops, two people in the vehicles managed to escape. However, the two cops managed to secure I Faizal, 28 of KM Colony at Athupalam in Coimbatore city and N Kanagaraj, 44 from Vettaikaranpudur near Pollachi.
The cops produced the duo before Sulur police inspector Mathaiyan.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that they had procured the ration rice from a man named Jaffar and were going to give it to Vignesh of Sengapalli.
Later, the police handed them over to the civil supplies CID police with the seized rice and vehicles.
